One of the most common questions we get at Sirius French Bulldogs is some version of: "Why is this puppy more expensive than that one?" It's a fair question, and the answer is actually pretty simple once you understand how coat color pricing works in the French Bulldog world.
Traditional vs. Exotic Coat Colors
French Bulldogs come in a range of coat colors, and the market (not just us) generally splits them into two broad categories: traditional colors and exotic or rare colors. Traditional colors are the classic, most commonly seen coats. Exotic or rare colors are coats that occur less frequently in the breed due to the specific genetics required to produce them, which makes puppies born with those colors harder to come by.
This is where our pricing tiers come from. A puppy in a traditional color might be priced around $2,500, while a puppy in a genuinely exotic or rare color tier might be priced closer to $3,500. The difference isn't arbitrary and it isn't a sales tactic - it reflects genuine differences in genetic rarity and the difficulty of producing those colors responsibly.
Why We're Careful With the Words "Rare" and "Exotic"
We take this seriously: we will only describe a puppy's coat as rare or exotic when it genuinely falls into that tier. We don't use those words to make an ordinary traditional-colored puppy sound more special than it is. If we tell you a puppy is in the exotic tier, that's a straightforward, honest fact about the coat genetics, not marketing language.
Bloodlines Matter Too
All of our breeding dogs come from champion and European bloodlines, and every parent is health tested with genetic clearances before being bred. So regardless of which color tier a puppy falls into, the foundation of health testing and quality bloodlines is the same across our whole program.
Have Questions About a Specific Litter?
We currently have two litters in the pipeline here in Phoenix, and we're always happy to walk a family through exactly which tier a particular puppy falls into and why. If you're color-curious, just ask - we'd rather you understand the pricing than wonder about it.
